Mo Money, Mo Magecart

Online shopping sites are prime targets for cybercriminals. Large sites can process vast quantities of personal information and payment data, making them a high-value reward if successfully hijacked. On 29 April, Malwarebytes Threat Intelligence shared a JavaScript web skimmer their team discovered on a compromised French Canadian online shoe store. The skimmer was injected into the online store's checkout page and used to siphon off payment data and billing info. Data entered into the site was exfiltrated to a domain in Russia. I pivoted off this domain and looked at what was hosted on the same IP with a similar naming convention. This led to uncovered multiple other domains used for web skimming. Analysis of Meyhod JavaScript Web Skimmers

  A new web skimmer, dubbed Meyhod, has been disclosed by RiskIQ. The malware (named after a typo in the code) appeared in October on several e-commerce sites, including the hair treatment company Bosley and the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC). While investigating the attacker's domain (jquerycloud[.]com) a bit further and other potential victims from this campaign were uncovered some months ago. Analysis of a recent Magecart campaign

  On 13 March, SanSec disclosed a new Magecart domain used to host malicious JavaScript (.js) files that can collect credit card information from ecommerce site checkout pages. The site (jquerycdn[.]at) that hosted the scripts was present on at least 299 different victim stores. The most commonly attacked platform is Magento 1 ecommerce platform. Notably, support for Magento 1 ended on 30 June 2020, meaning that it will no longer receive security updates. How does the web skimmer work? “Web skimmers are loaded on the checkout page of a typical store. It lives in the browser of an unsuspecting online customer. Whenever he or she enters her payment information, the private data is siphoned off to an offshore server. Deep-dive: The Magecart Collective

The Magecart collective is a myriad of distinct cybercriminal groups which are strategically inserting credit card skimming code on to compromised e-commerce websites, at an unprecedented rate and with frightening success. Magecart achieved infamy after two data heists from Ticketmaster and British Airways. Hundreds of thousands of customers’ card payment information had been lifted via a few lines of JavaScript code injected onto the pages where customers fill out their credit card numbers.
